Dora was born in the summer of 1988 as the first child of Cole and Elena Márquez.

- Based on Star's universe, her age in each material would be:
- 7 in Dora the Explorer Seasons 1-5.
- 8 in Dora the Explorer Season 5 finale onwards.
- 10 in Dora and Friends: Into the City!.
- 16 in Dora and the Lost City of Gold.
- Her current age (as of April 2024) would be roughly 35.
- Based on Star's timeline, Dora the Explorer takes place during 3 consecutive years:
- Seasons 1 and 2 until the episode A Present For Santa take place in 1995, after Dora has already had her 7th birthday. There is also a possibility Dora might still be 6 in some of the early episodes.
- Seasons 2 (after the Christmas episode)-5 take place in 1996, mostly before Dora's 8th birthday (as her 8th birthday is the Season 5 finale). Certain episodes, including the storybook episodes and the second Christmas episode, Dora's Christmas Carol Adventure, do not happen in Star's universe. The episodes might not be in exactly chronological order, leaving open the possibility of Dora being 8 in some of them.
- First Day of School would also take place after Dora's Big Birthday Adventure, since Dora's birthday would be before school starts.
- Seasons 6-8 take place in 1997, before Dora's 9th birthday.
- Dora and Friends: Into the City! takes place in the 1998-1999 school year.
- Dora and the Lost City of Gold takes place in 2004, after Dora's 16th birthday, as Diego is also 16.
